Violence at Howe Community Park Results in Four Victims Wounded in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade

Officials in Sacramento County are looking into a shooting incident that broke out on April 18 2026 at the Howe Community Park area just as Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dissolving an unlawful assembly of hundreds of attendees.

Prior to the Shooting

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first called to the park at approximately 6:30 PM after obtaining information of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Not long after, a second call came in concerning an alleged brawl occurring within the park grounds.

A law enforcement helicopter was sent to survey the area but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Despite this, it was apparent that a massive group had assembled at the park without official sanction.

The Moment Gunfire Erupted

Deputies set about removing people from the park by setting up around the park's perimeter and using their vehicle PA systems telling the hundreds present to vacate the area. About 15 minutes were allotted for attendees to disperse.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition cut through the air. The shots triggered a stampede. Officers wasted no time in finding those who had been shot.

Four People Shot

By the time the scene was secured, four individuals were identified as having gunshot wounds. Those injured — including a female and three males all reportedly in their 20s at the time of the incident — Sacramento park shooting 2026 were rushed to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical teams reported that two had critical injury classifications, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one victim's wounds were minor. As of last report, each of the four victims was stable.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District were called to the scene and provided medical assistance those with gunshot wounds on location.

Evidence at the Scene

The center of the incident seemed to have unfolded along the Cottage Way side of the park adjacent to the Home Depot store on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators located additional spent rounds along Cottage Way. Bullet holes were noted in the iron fence surrounding the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries suggested that at least one of the shooters had been aiming south from along Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot. The nearby Home Depot was temporarily locked down during the incident. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location throughout the night.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Information obtained over scanner radio traffic revealed that a Kia vehicle had been stopped in Solano County. Four suspects were held for questioning. Sheriff's units were heading to pick up the four detainees to pick up those detained for formal questioning. Surveillance footage showed that two shooters had been involved.
